This is a truly heart wrenching book. Celie suffers so much loss, heart break, abuse that you feel utterly amazed that she survives any of it. But with a coming home twist at the end, you feel better for having read it. There are strong sexual situations right at the beginning that might turn a reader off. Better to beware.
