This Rock

This Rock by Robert Morgan (Gap Creek) is a coming-of-age story set in the Carolinas in the 1920s. Ginny, a widow, raises a daughter and two sons on very meager resources. Daughter Fay plays a very small role in the book. Moody is an alcoholic bootlegger with a mean streak. Muir is a thoughtful teenager striving to find his life's work - preacher? builder? - through the troubling movement from boy to man. I enjoyed this book very much, but for those who like action and a lot of plot, this may not be for you. 336 pages
